Hathaway Marine Surveyors Staff

Brian M. Hathaway, President, is a graduate of Maine Maritime Academy and has been involved in the marine industry for more than forty years as a ship's officer aboard tankers, passenger liners, and cargo vessels and as an instructor of technical nautical subjects. He founded Hathaway Services, Inc. in 1973 and has been an active marine surveyor since then.

He is a member of the National Association of Marine Surveyors, Certified Marine Surveyor (NAMS-CMS), a member of the Portland Marine Society, the Council of American Master Mariners, and a U.S.C.G. licensed Unlimited Master Mariner.

S. Merrill Hall has spent the last forty years as a design and manufacturing engineer in the development of automatic machinery and computer peripheral equipment. A notable accomplishment was in the design of the Electric Fork (companion piece to the equally useless electric knife). During slack times he restored several fiberglass cruising sailboats, operated Mobile Boatyard Services, and delivered yachts along the East Coast. He has been doing marine surveys and inspections since 1996, was a USCGA Sailing & Seamanship instructor, and has been involved with boats since childhood. He built his first boat at age twelve that sank without a trace. He has not since then had a similar experience.

He is a member of the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors, Accredited Marine Surveyor(SAMS® AMS®).
