Memberships & Professional QualificationsThere are two organizations in the United States for marine surveyors, the National Association of Marine Surveyors (NAMS) and the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (SAMS).
Both SAMS and NAMS require that every applicant be a working surveyor with at least five years of survey experience and must pass a comprehensive written examination before acceptance. Both organizations require that all accredited/certified members attend continuing education seminars to increase their knowledge and proficiency in the ever-changing marine technological environment.
Our surveyors are active members of either SAMS or NAMS.
ABYC, the American Boat and Yacht Council and NFPA, the National Fire Protection Association are two organizations that publish voluntary standards for the construction, safety, and maintenance of pleasure and commercial vessels.
Hathaway Marine Surveyors is a member of both ABYC and NFPA.
